Originally recorded in Denver in 1975, this live album was Gene Clark's first solo in-concert release.
The set includes the former Byrd's performances of two songs originally composed with Bernie Leadon, "Train Leaves Here This Morning" and "She Darked the Sun," as well as a couple of tracks from Clark's 1974 cocaine drenched solo album " No Other "-- the beautiful, traditional-sounding "Silver Raven" and the brooding title track.

The Kinks
Lola vs The Powerman and The Money-Go-Round Part 1
CD
Originally released in 1970, this is arguably the best album that the Kinks made - even surpassing such lauded efforts as Arthur, Village Green Preservation Society, Something Else and Face to Face. What makes the "Lola" album so good is that it is great from go to whoa - yes, this is an album which is all killer and no filler.
Besides the two well known hit singles - Lola and Apeman, some of the lesser known tracks are arguably as good, if not better, then these two Kinks catalogue stalwarts. Highlights - and there are so many - include the gorgeous "This Time Tomorrow", the raucous "Powerman", the melancholy of "A Long Way From Home", the cynical take on the music industry "Top of The Pops" (with a killer riff too!); and the social commentary of "Get Back in Line".
Ray Davies was at the peak of his song writing powers on this album. The band never sounded better (John Gosling's keyboards are subtle but tasteful and add a great deal to the album overall). A true desert island disc.

Nev's Picks
And This Is Free: The Life and Times of Chicago's Legendary Maxwell St. (DVD / CD)
This is one that all blues fans need to get.
During its heyday , the Maxwell Street Market area represented one of the most fascinating chapters in American urban history --- People congregated there by the thousands to shop for bargains in stores and on pushcarts --- They went, too, for the endless entertainment of street musicians, including many of Chicago's blues greats, hucksters, rousing preachers, street entertainers and much more.
The DVD consists of two b/w films, And This Is Free and Maxwell Street;A Living Memory--both are excellent and include some fine music from the street, including Robert Nighthawk. An excellent 36page booklet include many great photos and information, plus a 17track CD of blues that you could have heard back in the day.Plus some excellent extras which all add up to a great record of a place in time that sadly is now gone but not forgotten thanks to this release.
A must have.

The Motions
Introduction to the Motions
CD |
These guys never get the attention that fellow Dutch 60's outfits Q65 and The Outsiders manage to garner. I'm guessing it's because while they occupied a much more savage style of Beat / Garage, The Motions were firmly entrenched in a space much like The Who, Small Faces, Kinks and Easybeats sense of melodic pop/ psych.
This 32 track cd contains all the tracks from their first 2 lps, " Introduction To The Motions " and " Their Own Way " plus 7 bonus cuts of non lp 45's and unreleased tracks. Check out " Everything That's Mine " from the Nuggets 2 box set to get an idea of the tougher side of the group, though it's the more pop orientated stuff that are the highlights on this disc. It's out of print - 3 copies only
